Great Swamp Conservancy

Sometimes the best learning experiences are right under your nose! I love local finds and was fortunate to have a full day with my best friend (we grew up together) and our girls. I was home visiting my parents and there were a few local events going on. We opted for the nearby Great Swamp Conservancy Winter Fest and we were so glad we did! Lola was clearly pumped for a snow filled day and had a blast sledding down the steep hills. We couldn't get over roasting marshmallows in the middle of winter. They had several different crafts for the kids and we came home with a homemade owl, homemade paper snowflakes and two bird feeders. There were some fun games such as the ice fishing which consisted of a large metal tub with pretend fish to hook. They could have done that forever. Unfortunately, we weren't prepped for the awesome cross country skiing and/or snowshoeing but it looked like a great time from what we saw and with so much to see. We were so grateful for the speaker who explained a display of animal bones and taught even the adults a thing or two (did you know rabbits have two smaller teeth in front of their two big teeth?!) and for the hospitable people working the event. It was nice to spend a winter day outdoors for once!
